Benefits Of Sex In Older Couples

25 May

You don’t have to be young to enjoy sex, and being intimate with your partner can have all sorts of health and psychological benefits.

So, if you suffer from erectile dysfunction but want to continue to have a healthy sex life as you get older, reading about the pros of intercourse may tempt you to try herbal Viagra to see what a difference it can make to your lifestyle.

Dr Helen Fisher, a biological anthropologist, spoke to CBS News about why sex is good for those in later life, saying it provides a boost for the dopamine system in the brain. This, in turn, helps give you energy, focus, joy, optimism and motivation.

“The sex drive…that’s very good for the lungs, the heart, it’s good for promoting sleep, it boosts the immune system, it’s very good for the skin, it drives oxygen to the brain,” Dr Fisher stated.

Her comments are supported by research released in the Age and Ageing medical journey, which found those over 50 with an active sex life have better memory and cognitive function than those who do not have intercourse as much.

Many people in their 50s and 60s might be starting new relationships, in which case their sex drive is likely to be high and their physical attraction to their new partners strong.

However, for those who have been with their loves for several years – or even decades – there are ways to improve intimacy so you can continue to have fun between the sheets for a long time yet.

Firstly, communication is key, so don’t clam up or keep things from your partner; try to experiment in the bedroom to keep things fresh; enjoy time alone without work or children; and try to always show your spouse you love them with small gifts, notes or a kiss.
